Marriage & Civil Union License Requirements

1. Bride must be a resident of Fort Lee and both the bride and groom must be at least 18 years of age.

2. Bride must show proof of being a Fort Lee resident, i.e. driver’s license, a bill (showing bride’s name and Fort Lee address), or a notarized letter from the landlord.

3. Bride and groom must show proof of birth, i.e. birth certificates or passports.

4. Social Security Number (if applicable).

5. When applying, you must have one (1) witness with you. The witness must:
(a) Be at least 18 years of age.
(b) Know both the bride and groom.
(c) May be a family member.
(d) Be able to speak and understand English.

6. After you apply, there is a 72-hour waiting period before the license can be issued to you.

7. You must provide the name, address, and phone number of the Officiant (Priest, Mayor, Judge, etc.).

8. If divorced, must bring “Final Divorce Decree” papers, showing the Docket number and Judge’s signature.

10. Marriage License applications are taken Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

11. Marriage License fee is $28.00 and is payable at the time of application.
