The professional and friendly secretarial staff of the Fire Prevention Bureau will assist the public with questions concerning applications for Continuing Certificate of Occupancy, Police and Fire Alarm Registration, Invalid and Tot Finder Programs, and Lock Box applications, as well as scheduling appointments for inspections. The fire inspectors regular duties consist of investigation of complaints, routine fire inspections, fire lane enforcement, smoke detector/carbon monoxide compliance, and public education. In addition to these duties, all inspectors are trained as medical first responders and certified in the use of defibrillators, trained as fire investigators to determine the origin and cause of fires, explosions, or hazardous material spills. Lastly, the Fire Prevention Bureau responds to all active fire alarms during working hours to relieve the burden from the Fort Lee Volunteer Fire Department. Each of the inspectors held the position as Fire Chief of the Fort Lee Fire Department and provides twenty-five (25) plus years of diversified experience in fire protection and fire prevention discipline.
