HE FORT LEE VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE CORPS, a self sustaining organization, was created in 1971 and initially housed in a small garage behind Borough Hall. In August of 1975, the Corps moved to its 10-room modern facility at the corner of Main Street and Anderson Avenue. The building contains a kitchen, sleeping and living quarters, training and storage areas, and a large meeting room. Three ambulance are housed indoors.

The Corps presently boasts 54 fully-trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Each member must re-certify in CPR annually, and take continuing education courses to upgrade their knowledge in the field. In addition to loaning crutches and wheelchairs to Fort Lee residents free of charge, the Corps continues to hold its annual Blood Drive for residents in October.

The Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps responds to over 3,000 medical emergencies a year. The Corps is also a member of the East Bergen Ambulance Association (EBAA) and the New Jersey State First Aid Council (NJSFAC). Fort Lee’s mutual aid agreement with surrounding East Bergen communities assures that eight to ten ambulances can immediately respond in the event of a disaster.
